Cone-shaped holes about the width of a thumb, usually overnight. That is a skunk feeding on grubs. The lawn damage is a symptom of a grub problem underneath.

Not with tomato juice. A peroxide, baking soda and dish soap mix neutralises it on surfaces and pets. Where it has entered a crawl space the material holding the odour usually has to come out.
